In 2025, we put over 50 new vehicles, including eight hybrid models, through our stringent road test regimen. We have rounded up the six highest-scoring hybrid vehicles, with second place tied, tested by CAR magazine in 2025.
5. Jaecoo J7 SHS DHT – 81/100
Starting the list off was the Jaecoo J7 SHS DHT, which impressed in the July 2025 issue of CAR magazine as a refined and competitively priced plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV with a generous standard specification. The J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System) employs a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol engine paired with a single electric motor – the latter fed by an 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. The PHEV setup produces combined system outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque, while sipping only 4.6 L/100 km on our mixed-use fuel route; making it one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles CAR magazine tested in 2025.
4. Omoda C9 1.5T PHEV AWD Explore – 82/100
Tested in the October 2025 issue of CAR magazine, the Omoda C9 PHEV spearheads this Chery sub-brand’s local new-energy model lineup. The C9 PHEV’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol engine is coupled with a duo of electric motors, fed by a 34.5 kWh battery, for combined power and torque outputs of 440 kW and 915 N.m. Power is delivered to the road via all four wheels. On our standardised fuel route, the flagship C9 returned 6.0 L/100 km.

The Haval H6 GT PHEV employs a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol engine paired with two electric motors, fed by a 35.4 kWh battery. A four-wheel drive system transfers 321 kW/762 N.m to all four corners via a dedicated hybrid transmission. The pinnacle H6 completed the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.07 seconds on our test strip.
