Coffee in the orchards, a picnic you choose yourself, and a private 4x4 climb to a viewpoint few visitors ever reach.

This is the day the BYD Shark was built for. South Africa's first plug-in hybrid bakkie takes you over Sir Lowry's Pass into the Elgin Valley, then off the tar and up the mountain trails. At the top you stop at our exclusive viewpoint, looking back across the valley all the way to Table Mountain.

How the day unfolds

• Collection. Your chauffeur meets you at your hotel or villa and heads out of the city in the Shark.
• Coffee at Peregrine Farm Stall. Start with coffee at one of the Overberg's best-loved farm stalls.
• Shop your own picnic. Each guest gets a R400 voucher to fill the picnic basket with whatever you like from Peregrine's deli, bakery and pantry. It's all packed into the back of the Shark.
• The Elgin 4x4 trail. Leave the road behind as the Shark climbs through the valley on the 4x4 trail.
• The viewpoint. Your picnic is served at our exclusive lookout, with the whole Elgin Valley below you and Table Mountain on the horizon.
• A pause at Peregrine. Stop back at the farm stall to stretch your legs and pick up something for later, before the scenic drive home to Cape Town.

Good to know
This is a full-day experience of around 8 hours. The trail is taken at a comfortable pace, so you don't need any off-road experience. Just bring a camera and an appetite.
